Obviously, you're starting Assassin's Blessing in any jungle build, but with Mercury, starting Boots will give you an extra 1.5 power, which isn't much to write home about. But added to the extra movement speed to farm, is beneficial. Multi Potion is the best option to go for early sustain unless you're skipping getting Hand of the Gods, in which case grab both Health and Mana potions.

While Mercury does have slow immunity for Shackles and a CC immune ult for No Escape, a max-CDR Ares with Relic Dagger will have a shorter cooldown on his ult than your ultimate and Purification Beads. Not to mention you can't use Special Delivery.

If you're against an Artio, you're going to have a lot of trouble getting Special Delivery off because of Entangling Vines / Ferocious Roar. You need to avoid getting close to her as much as you can.

If you load into a game, and see a Geb on the enemy team, be prepared to suffer if their Geb knows what he's doing. Geb's passive, Hard as Rock, makes your critical strikes only do 25% more damage to him rather than the normal 100% damage buff. Stone Shield allows Geb to cleanse and shield teammates who are currently grabbed by Special Delivery, putting you in a poor position with no escape. His ultimate, Cataclysm, can catch a Mercury and can cause him a quick death if he doesn't have Purification Beads available.

Kumbhakarna is a Crowd Control heavy god, and problematic for any Mercury wanting to dive a backline. With access to Groggy Strike, Mighty Yawn, and his ultimate, Epic Uppercut, Mercury will not be able to get much damage off on the enemy team's carries.

Kuzenbo is another massive threat for Mercury. His minion, NeNe Kappa will slow you and be able to body block your basics for one or two seconds. Shell Spikes will cause immense damage to Mercury and give Kuzenbo his abilities back with the internal cooldown reduction. Sumo Slam and Kuzenbo's ultimate, Watery Grave, are also Crowd Control heavy abilities that can interrupt what Mercury wants to do.

Terra has one of the best, if not the best teamfight ultimate in the game with Earthen Fury, giving enemies 5% more damage taken, and allies 5% damage mitigation, which is a small barrier for Mercury. However, Terra is a hard counter to Mercury because her player-made walls from Crushing Earth and Monolith can block the path of Special Delivery and Sonic Boom from Mercury. Terra can also not be thrown back from Mercury's dash when she has a stone on the battlefield, because of her passive, Standing Stones.

He Bo has a pretty easy time dealing with Mercury. With the high burst damage from Waterspout, Water Cannon, and Crushing Wave, any Mercury will be deleted from the map pretty quickly. Atlas of the Yellow River is also a wonderful escape and peel tool for He Bo, as well as for his allies.

Hera is a nightmare to dive for any assassin. She has so many self-peel tools for her use, with a 650 health shield from Divine Shroud at level 20, she can absorb essentially two Mercury basics. Her Argus, the Defender and Polymorph combos are also a doom for any Mercury.

Khepri has a lot of tools available at his disposal to counter Mercury, as a two-star Khepri, I've never really had a problem facing him as Khepri. Fortitude gives allies a small shield for bonus health against his dive. Abduct and Solar Flare can lock you down quite easily. Rising Dawn can give Khepri's allies 30% damage reduction which makes your auto attacks do 30% less damage (quick maths!). For example, if you normally auto someone for 600 damage with a Critical Strike, with the Rising Dawn buff, it would only do 420. We aren't even to the worst part for Mercury yet. Scarab's Blessing allows Khepri to pull your target out of danger and save him from whoever Mercury decides to attack. It also has a cleanse effect, similar to Stone Shield from Geb, and can save allies from your Special Delivery.

This matchup is heavily favored for Poseidon, but can be winnable for Mercury if he has his Purification Beads available and a way to chase him down. Poseidon's Whirlpool cripples Mercury, stopping him from using Special Delivery. Poseidon also has many abilities and a kit designed to allow him to self-peel for himself. With Changing Tides and Trident, it can be difficult to keep up with his movement speed. You're going to have to be prepared to pre-Beads his Release the Kraken.

Another matchup that Mercury can win, but will have a difficult time with is Skadi. Mercury does have a slow immunity for her Piercing Cold, but with Kaldr, The Winter Wolf, your basics will be blocked. Permafrost will also make her hard to catch with you sliding around and Skadi getting a 40% movement speed buff at max rank. Winter's Grasp at max rank roots you for 2s, which is more than enough time for her to burst you down.

His Frost Breath can also make Mercury an easy target for high burst damage from the enemy team. Mercury does have a slow immunity with Maximum Velocity for Glacial Spikes and Shards of Ice, but Ymir also can burst you down easier than you think.

I personally try to pick Mercury whenever I see an Arachne on the other team. Maximum Velocity is your best friend in this matchup, granting you slow immunity for Arachne's Web and the landing zone of Night Crawler. You should really only be worried in this matchup if your Purification Beads are on cooldown and you get stunned by Cocoon.

Nike is a rather even matchup for Mercury throughout the game. Rend can do about a quarter of your health with it's built-in protection shred, and leave you unable to get damage off with it's 2-second disarm effect. Her Barrier Formation will block your melee auto attacks. However, Special Delivery will have a higher priority than her Barrier Formation and you can grab her out of it. Your dash also has a higher priority than Valiant Leap and you can grab her as she lands. You also have a slow immunity for Sentinel of Zeus.

Ah Muzen Cab has no CC immunity as well as no escape ability, making him easy pickings for you. Save your Maximum Velocity for AMC's Honey and be weary of the Cripple from Stinger, and you're good to go.

With only having CC immunity from Rising Jaguar, Xbalanque is a pretty easy target for Mercury. You have slow immunity for Poison Darts and you can easily chase down after his dash.

Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods.
