START

Notes At 15 seconds into the round you'll have gained enough gold to buy your Nettle Acorn, make sure you grab it before the camps spawn

Start at and Solo speed, and use Hand of the Gods on the big harpy camp, then head to mid lane. If the enemy midlaner is pushed up, blink and Dart to gank them. Make sure you wait to use your Acorn Blast to see if they will panic beads

Alternatively, if you are not confident with ganking. You can simply go to the right mid harpy camp and take it for free.

There s a video showcasing this route in the "Rollout" section of the guide

Introduction

I'm ZapMouse, a PC player playing on EU servers. I play every role, but specialize in jungle and the solo lane and in both of those I generally play Ratatoskr

I'm the leader of the Foxes, who are you? - "Final Fusion" Ratatoskr

I've been playing smite since season 2 however I took a break for several years and started playing again at the start of season 8 where I fell in love with the reworked Ratatoskr he's exceptionally cute, fun to play, and his voice packs are simply the best in the game, and no one else comes close (I will fight you on this!)

This guide is primarily about Ratatoskr, I dont speak much about how to play Jungle or Solo lane, and this guide is written with the assumption that you already have a baseline understanding of how each role is played

Pros / Cons

Jungle Ratatoskr

.......
Pros .......

  • Strong Early / Mid Game
  • Excellent Mobility
  • Versatile Ultimate, can be used for ganks, escape or utility
  • Naturally Faster than other gods
  • Easy to learn
  • Every ability has CC or a debuff
  • Very strong LV 2 Gank
  • AOE Auto in attack progression
  • Toxic Laugh
......
Cons ......

  • Acorn Blast Can easily be missed
  • Medicore Late Game
  • Only 5 items to choose, due to your acorn taking up a slot
  • High Base Cooldowns
  • Squishy
  • Toxic Laugh

Solo Lane Ratatoskr

.......
Pros .......

  • High Damage Early Game, especially with Thickbark Acorn
  • Excellent mid rotation
  • Good initation potential
  • Safe from Ganks (When ult is up)
  • Doesnt need to back to buy acorn, can stay in lane for ages
  • Can clear the wave with a single ability
  • Toxic Laugh
......
Cons ......

  • Squishy early game
  • Squisher than most solo laners late game
  • Only 5 items to choose, due to your acorn taking up a slot
  • Need to complete your acorn before you come online
  • Struggles against gods with good early poke
  • Mana hungry wave clear
  • Without Thistlethorn Acorn your stun is very hard to land
  • High Base Cooldowns
  • Zero ranged poke
  • Toxic Laugh

The main thing to note here is Ratatoskr's progression. The AoE auto attack helps out your clear a ton, and thanks to the 0.5x auto attacks, you can infact use manikins scepter fairly well if you so wish.

Which ability you get first changes depending on what role you are in, and the matchup you are against, in general however...

If solo
If solo and the enemy solo's main clear is a channeled ability, such as Cabrakan

At lv 2, grab Dart and then get the ability you didnt get at lv 1, at lv 3. After that follow the information below.

If going Thistlethorn Acorn Follow the order : Acorn Blast-> Flurry-> Dart
If going Thickbark Acorn or Evergreen Acorn Follow the order Flurry-> Acorn Blast-> Dart

Items

In the Jungle Ratatoskr is quite versatlile when it comes to builds, he works fine as full damage, or as a hybrid, and he only has one item which is a must build, that being Jotunn's Wrath

This chapter focuses mainly on discussing the items in the jungler build although I do go over solo lane briefly, this is because what you build in solo lane is almost entirely matchup dependant and it's up to you to figure it out for each game you play

The Acorns

How to build (Jungle)

How to build (Solo)

Rollout : Opening Moves for Ratatoskr

Option A : Standard Opening

Standard opening for Rata is starting at speed, moving to the big harpy camp, and then joining the mid laner. Pretty much the standard jungle start that you should already be familiar with

An alternative to this route that some prefer is the solo laner starting with you at speed and you follow them and clear the entire jungle to blue buff, however I do not reccomend this start because at best you're going to be giving up a harpy camp to the enemy (if they go for the more direct route)

Or at worst if the midlaner gets ganked early, you're too far away to support them or perform a counter gank.

This video showcases the route in a custom match

Option B : The level 2 cringe gank

Ratatoskr has an exceptional level 2 gank (AKA, a cringe gank). At level 2, you're going to have your Dart and your Acorn Blast both of which have CC attached to them. This means you can choose a very aggressive start where you, clear speed, use HoG on the big harpy camp, and immedietely gank middle lane to get first blood before the enemy midlaner can reach level 2. If done correctly, this will get you both of the mid harpy camps, and first blood for you or the midlaner, a good way to start off your snowball.

Even if you choose not to do the gank in mid, this start allows you to take the right harpy camp for free unless the enemy jungler also went for a similar start. Giving you an immediete, if small, gold and exp lead

NOTE: I would not do this start untill you're atleast somewhat decent at hitting Rata's abilities, this is a high risk high reward start.

You can see a clip of me performing this gank here.

Advice to help your gank succeed

Conclusion

In Summary

Ratatoskr is an excellent jungler, and a great solo laner able to work with a huge variety of different builds and is generally excellent fun. He is consistently ranked around A+ tier on the Smite reddit's community Tier List and in the right hands he can single-handed win the entire early game of a match for you.

Hey! I'm not sure I follow. Ratatoskr isnt particularily snowball reliant, though he certainly can absolutely snowball a game. What parts of Rata's gameplay are you struggling with? Maybe I can help you out?
