* Contagion and Pestilence can be decided between when going up against healer comp.
* Spectral Armor can reduce 50% damage from crits if anybody is building it, giving you good health and a decent amount of mana too.
*Stone of Gaia can be really good on him, especially if against characters like Bacchus, Sylvanus, Horus, etc. (characters with grabs, pulls, knock ups and knock backs.)
* Lotus crown is situational, especially since you only have one healing ability that you can only cast when you're in the ultimate. However, it still provides decent physical protections.
* You can use pythagorem's piece when paired with gods who utilize/revolve around life steal (Pele, Anubis, Hades, etc.) This can also add some extra burst potential for your team. Soul Gem was an item I had on here for a while, but I haven't performed well with that item on him (at least in my experience).
*I've watched some videos and I saw one with pretty good performance using Relic Dagger. Haven't personally used it though.
You can really substitute Breastplate of Valor with any other defensive/offensive/whatever item. Many of items I have have worked best for me. Obsidian Shard can work, but I've only used it in Joust so far but even then, it has worked for me.
If you plan on playing aggressive and know how to, feel free to level up his 3.
Tap each threat level to view Cthulhu’s threats
In conquest, when I play support, this is the start I usually go for.
Some extra wards can also help if by the time you back you have enough gold. If you're getting ganked often, buying some extra health potions (you could also get the multi pot if they're making you waste your mana but I recommend health still.) I put three boots because those are often going to be your choices. I like going for lifesteal/more damage since I play aggressive
Phantom Veil could be used if you're against teams with Yemoja or Odin, but it could maybe work as a second relic choice.
Cursed ankh can be used to go up against healers and if they're really annoying you and your team, you can upgrade it to ensure that extra damage for your team. Thorns is still a decent choice if you see yourself diving into the back line often.
Horrific Emblem can be used when you and your team want to go aggressive on the enemy team while/if they're running away.
Heavenly Wings can be useful if you're going up against teams/gods who build a lot of speed (think Arachne or Bakasura).
Hello, I'm D_xstine. I'm a casual smite player and I just got Cthulhu and I thought I'd make a guide. This is my first guide and as he is knew, as the meta shifts and possible tweaks arrive, this guide will probably change. I'm open to feedback as I'm still learning (Only mastery 1 since a lot of people were instant locking him in.) This guide included some counters, builds, situational items and notes on leveling order.
Pros:
Cthulhu is able to set up for his own abilities and his teammates'. Aphrodite is a good matchup, especially due to her heals. Other healers are also good with him and due to his own healing, he could utilize other healer's use of Rod of Asclepius or Caduceus Shield. His root and stun can also set up for Arachne's basic attacks. Allowing for a long amount of CC. Along with this, Sol's ult can be helped out by his Root, since they'll be in place, a few of the hits of it can hurt the target.
An Additional Note:
As time goes on and I get more experience, I will add onto how you can fit him into team comps.
Cthulhu is a Smite Great Old One guardian who in the current state could be one of the best poking/set up guardians that I've played with. To me, he seems balanced but could use a couple of tweaks here and there, but he is particularly new so we could be seeing more nerfs, tweaks or buffs to his kit. He's probably one of the stronger guardians with his total of 6 CCs (I've counted but there's also an attack speed reduction. Not really a CC though). I really enjoy playing him and using his kit. I'm just glad we aren't dealing with another Baba Yaga situation. This was my take on making a build for a support Cthulhu and I'm into hearing the readers' feedback and criticism and based on the recommendations of change I get, I'll edit this so it could better my performance and anyone who plans on using this build.

There's actually a few gods i have had success with it on(i know, arena...lol)but I agree, i did not like it on him at all when i tried it. Just from a basic build standpoint I am wondering why you would build SoB if you are going to build it so late though...but it is confusing..i am wondering if there are unfinished edits.
He has tyrannical, iso, binding and void as core so that would have his boots before selling with a 6th situational, but then he shows
finished build with
SoB 5th before selling blessing and no 6th item. and then after selling blessing and shoes he has iso last, but he lists it as a core item. aren't core items supposed to be in your 1st 4 slots?
