Due to the changes in Restored Artifact, I see no downside in ditching starters for it. (You can go 2x Healing Potion, 2x Mana Potion or 1 of each. You can also pickup Purification Beads if you need to.)
Note: I typically go CDR shoes. Lifesteal Shoes are also a good item, so it is up to you to decide which you want more.
Chronos' for the CDR and power.
Charon's for the Pen.
Gem: His 3 can proc Iso in quick succession, note his 3 does not slow actually slows, but pulls to the center.
Doom Orb: MP built in and on the Passive, Mana, MP5 and MS built in and on the passive.
Rod: High MP and it's passive allows your abilities and AAs gain 25% more magical power to anyone under 50%.
Bancroft: MP, Lifesteal, Mana and a solid passive.
Poly: 75% more magical damage with his 2 and more lifesteal. (Note his 2 can proc and use Poly).
Soul: MP, Mana, %Pen and %Damage.
Staff: A suggestion by DV-8, MP %Pen and CDR. Allows you to use a non ult ability twice after an ult at the cost of the second use only dealing 70% of the normal damage.
Divine: Ability based antiheal + pen
Toxic: AA based antiheal
Spear: Flat Pen, CDR, High MP and a really good passive!
Bulwark: CCR, HP, Magical Protection and beefy shield at low HP.
Magi's: Small Phys and Mag protections, HP and absorbs hard CCs and roots every 70 seconds. Alternative to beads.
Pythag's: Mostly for teamplay, pick it up if you want more HP that gives you %pen and cdr and of course to help your team (especially if the enemy team is not building antiheal, I also typically build this in Solo or other game modes that is not conquest).
E-Staff: MP, Health, CCR and absorb mana and health pools from enemies.
You can sell boots late and pick up whatever item you want or need in the late game. (IE; Soul Reaver, etc)
Divine Ruin vs Spear of Desolation; If the enemy team has good sustain (they most likely will in the form of Solo, Mid and/or Carry) pickup Divine Ruin. If they do not, pickup Spear of Desolation
By this time you should have enough for Potion of Power to obtain full CDR!
I like these relics, most are self explanatory. I pickup Blink only if I KNOW I can guarantee kills with it.
Tap each threat level to view Poseidon’s threats
Changing Tides - Passive
This passive allows Poseidon to achieve more damage on his abilities at high tide (20% at Max Tide), movement speed (15% at Max Tide) and is gained by basic attacks (his 2 also contributes to this). Basic Attacks give 10% Tide Level on hit.
Tidal Surge - 1
This ability launches out a wave in a direct line in front of you, knocking enemies back and deals damage. This uses 20% of your tidal meter.
Trident - 2
This ability activates his trident allowing him to launch 2 more projectiles (3 in total) with his basic attack. This ability deals magical damage +20% of Poseidon's magical power. This also increases his Passive, Changing Tides. (Note, multiple hits from the basic attack with Trident up builds more passive, so if possible hit 2 or 3 of its basic attack! This ability procs and uses the passive of Polynomicon)
Whirlpool - 3
The bread and butter of Poseidon. It deals damage every .5 seconds for 3 seconds, cripples targets preventing movement abilities and pulls enemies to the center (20 unit radius). It consumes a total of 20% of his passive and is good for locking down Gods with movement abilities such as Ratatoskr's Dart. (Note: This ability is technically not a slow, but more in the vein of Baron Samedi's Life of the Party)
Release The Kraken! - 4/Ultimate
This ultimate is like a nuclear bomb. It consumes 30% of Poseidon's passive, damages and slows targets in the radius (30 units). Enemies in the center take additional damage, are knocked up in the air and stunned.
Combos;
Whirlpool -> Trident -> Basic Attacks. This keeps enemies from juking your Trident autos and allows for easier passive gain.
Whirlpool -> Tidal Surge. Same as above, enemies have a harder time juking your Tidal Surge.
Whirlpool -> Tidal Surge -> Trident -> Basic Attacks. Combines both combos from above into one nice package!
Whirlpool -> Release The Kraken!. Keeps the enemy from using movement abilities, locking them in the heart of the ultimate for big damage (unless they use relics to escape the damage). You can also follow this up with your Tidal Surge if the Whirlpool+ Release The Kraken! combo did not kill.
Bonus (This is using Staff of Myrddin's passive); Whirlpool -> Release The Kraken! -> Tidal Surge -> Tidal Surge. This allows you to deal huge amounts of damage that will let you use Staff's power and practically guarantee a kill even on most tanks! (You can also do the Trident+Basic attack combo following this if necessary.)
This is my first build on this website, so I hope to recieve some help and well earned criticism. I look forward to improving and making more builds as the time comes.
I use this build on gods with heavy tick focused ability such as; Kukulkan, Merlin, Aphrodite (when I am bored), Ah Puch and finally Anubis.
This is no means a build that everyone will enjoy or get use of, it is just something I smashed together for fun and have found success in all game modes with. I hope you enjoy and hope to hear some helpful feedback!

As for Gem of Isolation, I do still like this item a lot. However, placing it is tricky due to the expensive side of this build, plus other items being of more value than it. I do encourage any and all to test out various means of this build and can only help my build helps you in your quest to become the best God of The Sea you can be!
If you have other tips, comments or suggestions, please let me know and I will begin experimenting ASAP!
Edit: I went back and touched up on some explanations in the notes and abilities sections! (Most focus was on the Passive and how much basic attacks give to the tidal meter and the ultimate is now more descriptive and less lazy looking.)
Also wouldn't build pesti/contagion on Poseidon.
Doom rush is absolutely a thing, but it was more a thing last season, and with the current state of T2 Chronos, it's not the strongest start. Picking it up mid-game can also work, but it IS expensive and getting other things online first can be better IMO. Doom can still be functional later in a match anyway, IMO. You're still going to be clearing, and being able to be more mobile to help you move around a much more open map in the later stages of a game is a good thing.
That said, I don't personally like Gem of Isolation in that 3rd spot. I don't think it works quite as well as it did for him in past seasons due to the drop in slow duration, and think that getting some pen in the build would be helpful...either Divine or Deso, perhaps.
I also think Shoes of the Magi is more viable now, especially when you rush Chronos and get that much CDR early. Not that Focus is bad, just that Magi is competitive for that spot now. Maybe if you determine anti-heal is something necessary for the match, you'd go Deso, but otherwise you consider picking up Magi and Deso. Keeps you at 30% CDR to allow for the power potion or a Mantle late-game if needed.
With you not getting Book of Thoth, I don't think Book of the Dead should be listed.
Anyway, I really like how responsive you are on the comments, and taking the time to explain your thoughts. +1
I do agree, I will be removing BoTD as an option and most likely swapping it with Gem and replacing Gem with Divine.
I had major success at first with Gem, but now I'm quickly seeing the downside of building it early or at all (not saying it is terrible, and there IS a lot of fun to be had with it).
And I do agree with Magi being in a super good spot now. The buff they gave it makes it a great item, matching it with CDR shoes. I think both Shoes are viable, so if anyone reads this...please try both!
I'll be updating this build when I get off work tonight!
But I have seen people actually do T2 Chronos' into Magi's and it worked well for them :)
Also, Kriega, I do find a love for Doom rush on gods/goddesses like Hel, Aphro and even Ao. (I know he is mainly AA, but ability based Ao is fun...especially with Doom and Charon's!) So I do thank you for giving me the suggestion :)
I do believe in individual player choice, so it is all preference on when to build it
I noticed many pros and streamers pick it up early, but I always do it later when I have CDR and Pen online.
I will try it earlier and see if I still like it late or not :)
Edit: I also touch up on how I use Pythag's for solo. I use more of a sustain/brawler build in Solo. It all depends on the matchup and I will make a separate build tab for it later when I get more time.
Currently, I am not 100% confident in my level order, so I'd like to have some feedback on that when/if possible!
You can max abilities in the order of (3-2-1), (3-1-2), (1-3-2), or (1-2-3) based on your preference.
As a side note, I might mention that Pythagorem's Piece does not provide CDR. It used to, but got adjusted at the beginning of the new season.
I also like the write up to explain the combos and such. A nice addition.
I am glad the level order is still good, I always liked 3-2-1 level just because I see Whirlpool as something I use more than anything else!
I will look more into Pythag's and how I feel knowing the CDR is gone now, will again get back to you!
Note: I did credit you in the Staff note :)
Welcome to the site, and thanks for sharing your build!
We're happy to have you here, and I hope to see more content from you in the future!
I have to say that I generally build Poseidon this way. Pythagorem's Piece is a bit curious to me, but I suppose it can get good functionality in certain situations. What scenarios would cause you to opt for this over other options?
Also, I noticed that you are a returning player (wish you good luck getting back into the swing of things btw), so I didn't know if you have had time to experiment with Staff of Myrddin yet. I feel that this could be an interesting alternative.
