Hello there, I have been playing smite since mid season 3 or so. Currently I am masters in conquest and unqualified in other modes(dislike joust if not with friends and duel). My preferred roles are Support, Solo and Mid in that order. I decided to start doing some guides due to the fact that there is a shortage of them and since smitefire helped me out when I was starting out so might as well return the favor.
This guide for Sobek is going to be support only.
NOTE: All of my guides are for conquest mainly, builds can be used in other game modes obviously. Do not take the guide for granted! I encourage you to discuss and find better build than from what I have putted up there.
Pros:
-Good peel
-Good engage
-Great kill potential in lane
-Great damage for support
-Anti-heal built in his kit
-You're a crocodile
Cons:
-A bit of lacking in pressure on the first level
-If you miss your pluck you are forced to ult in other to disengage, otherwise you can easily get picked
Blessing of the Nile - it's pretty straightforward, whenever you basic attack or hit an ability you gain a stack of 7 protection(both magical and physical) that lasts for 6 seconds and can stack up 3 times. You have to abuse his passive in the laning phase. Those extra 27 protections in early game make you extremly tanky and allow you to win straight 2v2s in most cases.
Charge Prey - your main engage ability, most of the times you won't be using it as an engage tho. In late game team fights you are most likely looking to use it as a peel option when enemy jungler or solo laner tries to dive your back line.
Tail Whip - Another peel ability, you can also use it before Charge Prey in order to confirm it if you are afraid the target has a dash he might use. If not use it for peel, it's a knock up so diminishing returns don't work on it.
Sickening Strike - Your main sustain/damaging ability in lane, it also provides 50% anti-heal, just stick it to enemy adc or a god with plenty of sustain.
Lurking In The Waters - A huge aoe slow that does ton of damage late game, use it once your abilities are on cooldown and if possible stick to enemy carries, if not the slow is a decent peel as well.
STARTERS - It's a standard Guardian's Blessing combined with upgraded Heavenly Wings and 4 Healing Potion with 2 Multi Potion if you think you have a decent amount of kill potential or you can pick up another relic with either t1 of Gauntlet of Thebes or t1 of Travelers Shoes.
CORE - Gauntlet of Thebes if you are looking to farm for a late game if not, go straight for Sovereignty if you are looking to fight early on.
SITUATIONALS - Heartward Amulet is some sort of a standard pick up after Sovereignty, instead if they have a lot of healing Pestilance if not you can also look to get Void Stone, your ult synergizes well with it. Shogun's Kusari is also viable now in heavy auto attack comps again since his protection got returned to 50, cooldown reduction and crowd control reduction is also nice. Spirit Robe into heavy CC comps, Mantle of Discord if you want overall defense stats or if ahead. Stone of Binding is an interesting pick up on Sobek, his 1 procs it twice, his 2 procs it and you can reproc it with your ult several times, so it's an interesting pick up if you are ahead. Winged Blade obviously into compositions that have a lot of slows, thing that I do late game if I decide to go for it, is that I sell my shoes and get Relic Dagger or even Witchblade instead, you will still have almost the same amount of movement speed(5% less comparing to travels shoes, but combined you will have 2% more than others with their shoes only) but you will get much more benefits out of having shoes.
So a quick summary, Sobek is a fun god to play in my opinion, he is a god with which I have the most mastery points, he has an insane kit and in my opinion he isn't picked that often for what he offers to the table. Remember not to use your pluck for engage only, keep a close eye on your back line and peel for them instead, giving your adc that extra space between enemy front line or divers will allow them to easily put their damage out.
Thanks for reading the guide, if you have any advice how on what aspects of the guide to be improved or if you have suggestions for the build, let me know.
